Stunning moody arrangement by Casablanca Floral

But First, a Note on the State of Things…

Before we get to cookie news… I want to recognize the moment we are in right now in our country, with the devastating news coming out of Minneapolis (and also occurring, across the country, in our own communities).

I’m also wary of the way these moments are ripe for virtue signaling on social media. Especially coming from privileged people, like me. So, that’s why I’m putting this here, on the blog.

Let’s be real, I, a privileged white lady, am not going to have anything new or profound to say about this moment of national reckoning.

So, I’ll send you to a couple people who have said it well.

J. Kenji Lopez Alt’s statement really resonated with me. I think he did a great job of summarizing this moment, in context, and also relating it to food and our local communities.

I also really loved my girl Michaela’s series of videos on the subject from a couple weeks ago. (And, by the way, if you are a Seattle sports fan and you don’t already follow her account, Your Stadium Bestie, what are you even doing?!?!)

We all have lives. Children to raise, businesses to run, jobs to do, meals to make, days to get through. Many times I’ve thought I’d pop on to social media to promote my little cookie biz and been met with an onslaught of horrific news. I’ve felt paralyzed and derailed by it many times in the last few weeks. It’s overwhelming.

In times of crisis, what makes the most sense to me is doubling down on protecting and uplifting my community, right here.

So, here are a few local organizations with great resources: Northwest Immigrants Rights Project, Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network and Refugee Women’s Alliance. These are great places to donate any amount of time and money, if you are able.

Speaking of… buy tickets to The Panadery’s bake sale benefitting Nortwest Immigrants Rights Project. I’m a proud contributor to this event. So, you could win my cookies!!

The organizer, Carlos, has gotten so many amazing local bakers to donate prizes that I had to buy tickets for myself too.

Ok, now on to the fun stuff.
