Hi Friends!

Thanks to everyone who came out to my pop-up at Friends of Carmela last month!

Being at Pike Place was a new experience for me. Not going to lie, it presented some unforeseen challenges. For example, I usually don’t have much trouble selling people on cookies. But, it’s a bit tougher interacting with tourists who had just eaten a bag of donuts or a giant cinnamon roll.

I want to encourage more of my locals and regulars to get down to the market! I know it’s intimidating to wade through the crowds of tourists. But, I promise it’s worth it! It’s fun to be in the mix and people-watch. I take my kids for the entertainment value alone!

So, I’m returning to Friends of Carmela this Saturday, October 24th.

And I’m making a couple of adjustments.

Calling All Pumpkin Heads

New! Pumpkin Black and Orange Cookies

About a decade ago, I worked as a product developer for a certain large, Seattle-based, coffee company.

I’d call that period of time: Peak Pumpkin. The saturation was real.

Our job was to make the next Pumpkin Spice without making Pumpkin Spice. By that, I mean, come up with something that would become as beloved and ubiquitous as the beverage we all know and either love, or love-to-hate.

We had a lot of great ideas, and came up with fun special after fun special. But pumpkin spice remains singular in its autumnal ubiquity. It’s the blend of warm spices that signals it’s time to cozy up in sweater season’s warm embrace.

And it’s not just me who thinks so! When coming up with this month’s special, I put up a poll on Instagram. The overwhelming majority said give the people what they want! And what they want, folks, is pumpkin.

Pumpkin Black and Orange cookies!

A riff on the classic Black and White, these pumpkin cookies are cloaked in a half-and-half split of dark chocolate and orange-colored glazes.

I will say, pumpkin is a perfect fit for the cookie here. I find that pumpkin lends a real cakey-ness to baked goods. And, as any Black and White Cookie connoisseur knows, the cookie is really cake.

Personally, I’m trad when it comes to food. I’ll take a good version of a classic over a riff any day. But, these cookies are so good I might have to switch teams on this one!

Try them for yourself! My new Pumpkin Black and Orange cookies will be available only at this weekend’s pop-up at Friends of Carmela at Pike Place Market.

See you there!!
